A Cook County Circuit judge on Monday ordered a North Side youth suspected in a series of Lincoln Park rapes to undergo a blood test for the AIDS virus, after a victim of a sexual assault requested that he be tested.
Michael Lewis, 16, of 355 W. Locust St., appeared before Judge William Hibbler, who ordered Lewis be tested for HIV. Assistant State`s Atty. Steven Goebel told Hibbler that one of the witnesses requested Lewis be tested.
”I can see why a victim would like to have that information as soon as possible,” Hibbler ruled. ”I`m going to allow the testing to be done.”
The results of such a test will be given in a sealed envelope to Hibbler to protect Lewis` confidentiality. The judge will determine who finds out what the tests reveal. Lewis is suspected of sexually attacking five North Side women in their homes and in a parking garage.
