– Chiefs` concerns: The Kansas City Chiefs have gone from a quarterback controversy to a quarterback scarcity. Mark Vlasic, who had unseated Steve DeBerg, was on crutches in a doctor`s office Sunday with sprained knee ligaments suffered against the 49ers Saturday. His availability for next week`s regular-season finale and the next week`s AFC wild-card game was in doubt, leaving DeBerg as the Chiefs` only healthy quarterback. It also left General Manager Carl Peterson huddling with his staff looking for another backup. Possibilities: Mike Elkins and Steve Pelluer. Elkins was released on the final cut this year. Pelluer left training camp because of personal problems. The Chiefs` emergency QB is wide receiver Emile Harry.

– Quite a trio: Singer-actor Wayne Newton led the pregame show at Atlanta-Fulton County Stadium in the final regular-season game to be played there. The Falcons will play in the new Georgia Dome next season. After the ceremonies, Newton, rap singer Hammer and heavyweight champion Evander Holyfield went to the press box to watch the game.

– Extra points: When the Bengals allowed the Steelers 17 points in their 17-10 loss, it was the fewest points allowed this season by the Cincinnati defense, which is worst in the NFL. Cincinnati has allowed 30 or more points nine times.

Sunday marked the fifth time in six losses the Eagles have been beaten by a backup quarterback (Steve Beuerlein). The others were Tom Tupa of Phoenix, Chris Chandler of Tampa Bay, Steve Walsh of New Orleans and Steve Young of San Francisco.

Kelly Stouffer made his first start at quarterback for the Seahawks since Nov. 26, 1989. It lasted only 5 minutes 2 seconds. He was knocked out of the game with a strained knee after being sacked for a safety in his end zone.

Houston`s Drew Hill had eight receptions for 60 yards, surpassing 1,000 receiving yards for the season and making him the first player in NFL history with four 1,000-yard receiving seasons after hitting age 30. Hill is 35.

– They said it: Asked if he were going to watch the Miami-San Diego game, which might determine the Jets` playoff fate, coach Bruce Coslet said, ”No. There will be too much traffic on the bridge and I won`t get home in time.”

. . . Atlanta DB Deion Sanders: ”Falcons in the playoffs? What is this world coming to?”

– Milestones: Oilers QB Warren Moon completed 26 of 40 passes for 250 yards against the Browns, giving him 382 completions this season-an NFL single-season mark. Dolphins QB Dan Marino had set the existing NFL mark in 1986 with 378. . . . Marino passed Joe Montana and moved into fourth place on the NFL`s all-time passing list. Marino has 35,131 yards in nine seasons to 34,998 for Montana.

– Key injuries: Giants OL Brian Williams (neck); Falcons RB Steve Broussard

(leg); Seahawks QB Kelly Stouffer (knee); Redskins QB Mark Rypien (finger);

Broncos FB Robert Perryman (knee); Bills RB Thurman Thomas (ankle).
