Eric Zorn (”Making the grade no easy exercise,” Dec. 3)brings up the question of whether junior high students should be graded in physical education.

Is it as important as the ”core” subjects such as English, math and social studies? I say it is more important and should definitely be graded.

Kids need to know that training their bodies is every bit as important as training their minds. I see all kinds of highly educated people at the college fitness center where I work out who have neglected their bodies over the years and are realizing too late in life the importance of exercise.

What good is a healthy mind if you don`t have a healthy body to back it up? When people reach 50 years old, they should be at their peak

intellectually, but many cannot operate effectively because of long-time neglect of their bodies` needs.

Yes, let`s grade the kids and emphasize to them that physical education is as important as any other subject.
