In her letter on Dec. 17, Susan Z. Moehling brags about being a highly underpaid teacher in rural South Carolina. She claims that a teacher`s desire for an adequate salary should come secondary to the desire to educate the students.
Although morally this seems very commendable, what about teachers who someday want to educate their own children by sending them to college?
With the cost of college on the rise, it would be difficult to make ends meet for most teachers without being paid fairly.
She undervalues her own profession. Teachers are educating the future, and should be paid according to their importance.
