Get many Christmas gifts this year? No. They were holiday gifts. Eat many Christmas cookies? No. They were holiday cookies. Attend many Christmas parties? No. They were holiday parties.

At the risk of sounding like the Grinch, since it is no longer politically correct for our merchants and media to utter the words

”Christmas,” ”Christ,” or ”Jesus,” I have a suggestion.

Let`s stop buying holiday products and watching holiday shows. After all, if we`re all celebrating nothing, there`s no reason to put anything under the ”holiday” tree. And as long as we`re getting rid of all religion in our enlightened, secular society, let`s skip Easter, Thanksgiving, Hanukkah and Christmas in 1992.

If, as it seems, Christmas no longer has anything to do with God taking on human flesh, as Jesus Christ did some 2,000 years ago, then let`s be honest and rename December 25 what it has become in our commercialized society:

Consumers Day. Doesn`t have quite the same ring, does it?

And while we`re being politically correct, let`s change the famous song by Bing Crosby to ”I`m Dreaming of a Snow-covered Holiday.”
