William Dannemeyer`s guest column about banning gays from the military dripped more venomous hatred than any editorial in recent memory.

Using subtle imagery, this article equates being gay with child molestation, bestiality, AIDS transmission and shower room harassment. That is like equating having a black skin with thievery, lying, drug dealing, sexual assault and murder.

This article could have said that these undesirable acts hurt the military without using ”gay” as a code word for these acts.

Assuredly, some people who are gay commit undesirable acts, but there are also people who are gay who are good, decent citizens. People who are gay ought to be judged individually by the content of their character and not by the stereotypes of their sexuality.
