Ernest Celmer, 72, a retired Chicago book dealer, died Saturday in his son`s home in Chicago. Mr. Celmer, a native of Cicero and resident of the Lake View neighborhood, opened Celmer`s Book Store in the Uptown area in 1968. It specialized in Americana and first editions. In 1963, he founded Book Collecting World, a weekly newsletter for people interested in collecting books. During World War II, he was a first sergeant in the Army. He attended Pasadena Junior College, Northwestern University and Truman College. Mr. Celmer was the inventor of an astrological slide rule. He worked in recent years as a career and life-planning consultant. Survivors include a daughter, Cisley; a son, Kelly; and a sister. Visitation will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday in Lake View Chapel, 1458 W. Belmont Ave. Services will follow at 8 p.m.
