On public television in a program on drug-affected babies, a comment was made about a woman apparently on welfare who had seven pregnancies, three of which were affected by maternal drug abuse.
There is only so much discretionary money to be devoted toward social as well as general societal enhancement, which includes everything from education to more industrial research and development. The unfairness of multiple preg- nancies, especially problem ones, at great and ongoing public expense is not only unwise, but unkind and grossly unfair.
Those who cannot or will not take care of themselves should not be permitted to repetitively cheat more deserving causes. Reversible
sterilization must be a part of modern, thoughtful health care.
