The Official Price Guide of Holiday Collectibles (House of Collectibles, $12) is the first edition devoted to the rapidly developing market of ornaments, decorations and favors. Perusing the pages is fascinating and addictive because prices for some items are surprisingly high.

Also, because holiday items are often passed from one generation to the next, the chance that you may actually own a 1910 glass pine cone ornament

($125) or 1960 Walt Disney character lights ($35) is probably better than owning, say, an old Picasso.

Co-authors Helaine Fendelman and Jeri Schwartz gathered their information from auction catalogs, flea markets and antique shows. Prices from other holiday collectibles, too, will only encourage those who can`t bear to throw anything away. You can already start planning for Valentine`s Day. Heart-shaped candy boxes list between $15 and $35. Just think of the fun you can have collecting those.
