Regarding your Dec. 23 editorial on Block 37 in the Loop, it should be remem-bered that this location is also the site of a subway station on CTA`s O`Hare rapid transit line.
A new central city plaza on Block 37 could serve as Chicago`s focal point for travelers going to or from O`Hare Field, as well as a public space in the city`s heart. The impressive new O`Hare rapid transit station (plus the people-mover system now under construction) would have a direct link to a new downtown plaza. The grungy existing station could be upgraded and incorporated into a new city center, providing a better doorstep to the city for travelers and residents alike.
Chicago is one of the nation`s few cities with a transit line to its airport. This resource should be better utilized, and a new central plaza could be its major Loop station.
