The takeover of the Elgin municipal transit system by Pace was made final last week by the Pace Board of Directors.

The board at its regular monthly meeting approved an intergovernmental agreement with Elgin formalizing the Jan. 1 assumption by Pace of Elgin`s bus system. Sixty people previously employed by the city Department of Transportation were offered jobs at the Pace River Division, which agreed to honor existing labor contracts.

Pace had already been funding the Elgin bus operation and owned the buses operated in the city. Transit routes and services remained unchanged. Pace also agreed to pay Elgin $61,193 to cover administrative costs and expenses related to the transfer of the bus system.
