Dr. Robert Benjamin Mesrobian, 67, a longtime executive of Continental Can Co. and a former Hinsdale resident, died Saturday in Yale-New Haven Medical Center, New Haven, Conn. Dr. Mesrobian, who received bachelor`s, master`s and doctoral degrees from Princeton University, joined Continental Can in 1956 and became vice president of research and development in 1970, a position he held for 10 years. Before that, he was a professor at the Polytechnic Institute of Brooklyn and a Fulbright exchange professor in Groningen, The Netherlands. Dr. Mesrobian moved to Westport, Conn., in 1980 and had worked as vice president of technology for Viatech Inc. since 1983. He is survived by his wife, Evelyn Joan; four sons, Robert, John, Peter and James; a daughter, Carole Benco; seven grandchildren; and a sister. A memorial service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday in St. Luke Catholic Church, Westport.
