Library board members in Oak Lawn, in their second national search for a new director, say they hope to meet with final candidates next month.
The board failed in October to find a new director after a six-month national search. Highly publicized censorship battles at the library prompted two of the three finalists to refuse the job. Negotiations with the third broke down when the board could not meet her salary demands.
Officials last week received 31 responses to their advertisement and this week will start telephone interviews with qualified applicants. They estimate it will take about two weeks to complete those calls. After that, the top candidates will be invited to Oak Lawn for face-to-face interviews.
