Under the ”No kidding” portion of the Jan. 3 Tempo section appears the statement: ”The following five actors became stars, but their early lives were less than they might have been. None was raised by his parents: 1. Lee Majors-raised by adoptive family. . . .”
As a lawyer who has handled more than 30 adoptions during 49 years of practice, I am puzzled as to the conclusions. In all of my cases, the birth mother was unable to financially sup-port the child-and her intent was to have the child placed with adoptive parents who could better take care of her baby. It is for this reason that I take issue with World Features Syndicate that being raised by an adoptive family means that the baby`s life is less than it might have been. It is not necessarily so.
Adoptive families should not be degraded in this way.
