I disagree with much of what John Woods wrote about Israel and the Middle East (Voice, Dec. 12), but I am tremendously disturbed that two residents of my home town of Skokie possess the inso-lence to accuse the University of Chicago professor of anti-Semitism and xenophobia (Dec. 30). Too often such labels are pasted on anyone deemed the least bit critical of Israel.

The debt-plagued U.S. government hands more than $3 billion of aid to Israel annually. Isn`t it time to allow U.S. taxpayers the right to criticize- perhaps, on occasion, even to condemn-Israel`s policies or history without fear of being designated racist?
