Stephen Diamond, chief credit officer for American National Corp., has resigned from his post just over a year after parent company First Chicago Corp. detailed him to the bank to clean up its troubled loan portfolio.

Diamond, 57, cited health reasons for leaving.

Diamond`s departure coincides with a reorganization at American National.

Executive vice presidents John McKinnon and Richard Schwartz, both veterans of American National, were named co-managers of commercial banking, a new position.

Diamond will be replaced by First Chicago Corp. senior vice president Alan Delps, 51, who previously managed the company`s operations in Europe, Africa and the Middle East from London.

Delps` London post was eliminated last year.

Delps, McKinnon and Schwartz were all appointed to American`s board.
