Commonwealth Edison Co. posted a fourth-quarter loss of $429.6 million, or $2.11 a share, in contrast to earnings of $85.6 million, or 31 cents a share, a year earlier.
In November, following an Illinois Commerce Commission ruling that about $734 million of construction costs were unreasonably incurred, the Chicago-based utility took a charge that reduced net income $533.7 million, or $2.51 a share.
Revenues for the quarter rose to $1.48 billion from $1.33 billion in the final quarter of 1990.
Net income for the year slipped to $94.9 million, or 8 cents a share, from $128.3 million, or 22 cents a share, in 1990. Revenues advanced to $6.27 billion from $5.31 billion.
Earnings for 1990 reflect charges related to court decisions in Edison rate cases.
