I am old enough to remember when an item stamped ”Made in Japan” was cause for non-purchase in the belief the item was of inferior quality.

How times have changed! Upon reading Jim Mateja`s column in the Tribune of Jan. 9 touting the new Chrysler LH Sedan, I could not help wondering, again, what has become of America and American-made products when this car is said to ”drive like the Japanese, handle like the Japanese, have the quality of the Japanese and even to look like the Japanese.” And all of this stated with obvious pride in this new automobile.

While the Japanese may not have won the shooting war, they are certainly winning the economic war. When will America wake up and once again take pride in workmanship and superior quality products?
