How can a place that looks like a friendly neighborhood spot in a quiet hideway location offer fine continental cuisine at affordable prices?
Very nicely.
Jimmy C`s in Burr Ridge occupies a former school building several generations old that previously housed Milo and Mary`s restaurant and, later, Patrick`s restaurant.
Here, after big-buck renovations, Jimmy C`s currently offers steaks, fresh seafood, Italian dishes and specialties to patrons who enjoy the warm atmosphere rich with stone, fireplaces and roomy booths.
Manager Guy Accettura said, ”It`s our customers who make us what we are. We try to treat each one as a guest and they seem to feel like this is their place.”
Dinners include complimentary relish tray and generous portions. ”Almost everyone goes home with a doggie bag,” he added. Fridays and Saturdays, pianist/vocalist Lorraine Hoover entertains. A large U-shaped cocktail bar generates lively conversations.
But it`s the food that keeps them coming.
Accentura`s college days in Hawaii with a roommate who was a wine expert are reflected in some menu touches and an 80 percent-domestic wine list that includes 20 options available by the glass.
Homemade soups include tortellini, shrimp bisque and a split pea that one out-of-town patron orders by the gallon when he`s here to take home.
A dozen appetizers offer some creative choices-hot medallions of beef with garlic toast; avocado or cantaloupe stuffed wtih shrimp, crabmeat and pollack; deep-fried calamari rings.
Among the salads is turkey twist pasta, made with rotini pasta, turkey, black olives and artichoke hearts tossed in Italian Dijon dressing.
Choice beef and fresh seafood are offered, often with imaginative flair. Among menu staples are shrimp ecstasy (two each of beer-battered coconut and almond shrimp served with Amaretto sweet and sour sauce) and smokehouse ribs
Entrees range from $7.95 to $16.95 (for double-cut prime rib). The lunch menu features about 20 sandwiches and a half-dozen salad and speciality items. ———-
