Everyone is always criticizing the Postal Service and rightfully so. I recently read a line in a story and it really hit home. It was, ”When you are hospitalized and you ring for a nurse, she comes at the speed of the Postal Service.”

My present complaint is that every time the price of postage goes up, more mailboxes disappear. We used to be able to walk to a mailbox. Then we were able to jog to a mailbox. Now we have to drive to one.

Those that are left show fewer and fewer daily pickups. Pickups on Sundays and holidays are a thing of the past. The mail in most mailboxes is now only picked up once a day.

I can foresee a day in the not-too-distant future when the postage for a first class letter will be $1 and you will only be able to mail letters at the post office on Tuesdays between 8 a.m. and 9 a.m. in odd-numbered months.
