So the American public is souring on the gulf war because of the recession and because President Bush ”oversold it” (”Desert Storm: Still a good cause,” Jan. 20). Really? So it doesn`t have anything to do with people finally coming to grips with the thousands of Iraqi civilians who were killed and who continue to die because of the war? It doesn`t have anything to do with the realization that we were fed lie after lie by our politicians and generals and media?

We are finding that ”national morale and the old-fashioned American sense of can-do” must be built on something more noble than the graves of the massacred. The only ”verdict” I see on the gulf war is hunger and anger.
