Now that the Japanese have agreed to permit the sale of 20,000 more American cars, they will be interested in a letter I just received from one division of the Big Three American automobile manufacturers. It informs me that a defect, intermittent stalling (a potentially dangerous occurrence), has been detected in six-year-old vehicles such as the one I own. They are willing to fix it at no charge.

What the letter doesn`t mention is that the defect was found soon after I purchased the car and, after trying in vain five times to get the dealer to remedy it, I finally found a service station mechanic who took care of it. It sounds like my mechanic would have a thriving business in Tokyo.
