With health care the hottest issue in the national political arena, the Veterans Administration`s proposal to allow non-veterans to use its system has caused a furor.
Caught in the middle, though, is the veteran in need of medical care. Any funds the VA receives as reimbursement for treating non-veterans could be taken away from the budget it requires to care for veterans. Thank goodness the VFW is taking steps to prevent this move from further exhausting an already-diminished health care system.
We urge Congress to reject proposals to dilute or change the historical mission of the VA. We hope every post across the nation makes available a petition for members to sign and forward to their representatives in Washington.
Come on, you 27 million veterans, let them know you are a part of America that is being mishandled and disregarded.
