In response to the various suburbs expressing interest in the Adopt-A-Highway program, I am all for groups and individuals volunteering to clean up our roadways, but I am adamantly against putting up signs on those roadways in recognition of them.

When our family drives cross country during the summer, instead of enjoying the countryside, our eyes are always brought to the attention of those stupid signs. The volunteers should be thanked with a letter of appreciation or a certificate.

Sign pollution is just as bad as litter pollution. Use the money for another worthy cause.
