I was saddened to read that Gov. Edgar plans to close the Dana-Thomas house to the public due to budget constraints. Last March my family visited the house and enjoyed it a great deal. We had a very informative guided tour and found the house and its furnishings to be a genuine treasure.

I was astounded that there was no admission fee to see the house. I certainly felt the tour was worthwhile and would have gladly paid for the privilege of taking it.

It could be that admission charges would not cover the ongoing costs, but at least that is an option that should be explored. The Dana-Thomas house is too wonderful to be shut down.
