Matthew Ashley Gray, 29, a former sous-chef in the Chicago area, died Jan. 23 as a result of a motorcycle accident in Beverly Hills, Calif. A graduate of Lake Forest College and the Culinary School of Kendall College, he apprenticed at several Chicago-area restaurants, including the new Jameson`s and La Tour. He was Hyatt chef for golf`s U.S. Open in Minneapolis and for the Ryder Cup Tournament of Champions in Kiawah Island, S.C., in 1991. Survivors include his mother, Elizabeth Mandel; his stepfather, Richard Mandel; his grandmother, Elizabeth Kromis; and three brothers. Services were held in Allentown, Pa.
