A traffic light should be installed at Chambers Drive and Palatine Road, where a 65,000-square-foot Jewel/Osco is proposed, a traffic expert told the Hoffman Estates Plan Commission this week.
Rolf Kilian of Metro Transportation Group Inc. also said Palatine Road should be widened to three lanes from Burnham Drive to Olmstead Drive to provide for left-turn lanes through the intersections.
These changes would improve the current traffic conditions on that section of Palatine Road, where about 10,000 cars pass daily, Kilian said.
Traffic on the two-lane Palatine Road has been a major concern of residents opposed to the grocery plan, but worries about pollution, crime and competition for local businesses also have been expressed during the public hearings that began in November.
