I do believe the people who are writing in, condemning the automakers for complaining about not being able to sell cars in Japan when they do not make right-hand models, are missing the real point.

The question should be, why does a Jeep Cherokee costing in the $20,000 range here cost $42,000 in Japan, while a $24,000 Japanese van in Japan costs about the same over here?

If you were priced out of a potential market by devious means, would you be willing to incur extra costs by model change and still expect to compete?
