Rail service cuts to help the Chicago Transit Authority balance its 1992 budget go into effect this weekend. Here are the major components of the service reduction:
– Harvard and Wentworth closed on the Englewood line.
– Grand station closed on the O`Hare line.
– Laramie station closed on the Douglas line.
– California station closed on the Lake line.
– North/Clybourn station closed in the State Street subway, nights only on weekends and holidays.
– Thorndale station on the Howard line closed on Sundays and holidays.
– Saturday service discontinued on the Skokie Swift.
– Reduced owl service on the Lake and Englewood-Howard lines.
Saved from closure were three rail stations, Lawrence on the Howard line, Rockwell on the Ravenswood line and Noyes on the Evanston line.
