”Anybody interested in the visual arts would be interested in seeing
`Graphic Discourse at Cranbrook,”` says Rob Dewey, director of communications at the American Center for Design Gallery, where this exhibit of posters by students, faculty and alumni of the Cranbrook Academy of Art continues through Feb. 28.
Located outside Detroit, Cranbrook has a been a stepping-off point for many of the most respected names in American design and is the alma mater of many Chicago architects. ”They`re noted for being experimental, particularly in communication design,” Dewey says.
The posters, done over the past 10 years, range from limited edition studio experiments to pragmatic solutions for corporate and cultural clients. The results were published last year in ”Cranbrook Design: The New Discourse” ($35 paperback, Rizzoli).
The American Center for Design Gallery is located at 233 East Ontario St. Hours are: 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday (but closed Presidents` Day, February 17). Admission is free. For more information, call 312-787-2018.
