As a registered nurse, the voice of Hy Wallace on Jan. 27 really got my goat. His lame attempt at humor compared the speed of a nurse answering a call light to postal service delivery.

Mr. Wallace could obviously never do my job because of his lack of insight and patience. There are days I literally do not sit because I am making sure my patients are living, breathing and not laying in a pile of you- know-what.

Thankfully my level of job satisfaction is high because the majority of my patients appreciate what I do for them. Many a time a patient and/or their family members have told me that they never realized how much a nurse does for people until they got truly sick.

It is ironic that a recent poll published in a nursing magazine listed a nurse`s No. 1 frustration as not having enough time to meet all of their patients` needs. So you see, nurses do care about their patients. Don`t we deserve our share of the golden rule?
