Fred M. Fragassi Sr., 76, a retired Evanston police officer, died Saturday in the Maryhaven Nursing Center in Glenview. Mr. Fragassi served on the Evanston police force for 26 years. He was born in Evanston and lived there until 1978, when he moved to Skokie. During World War II, he worked on the Manhattan project as a member of the Army Corps of Engineers in Los Alamos, N.M. Survivors include three sons, Phillip, Joseph and Fred Jr.; eight grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. Mass will be said at 10 a.m. Tuesday in St. Nicholas Catholic Church, 806 Ridge Ave., Evanston.
