Lt. Kelly Franke, 26, will be honored Friday in San Diego by the Naval Helicopter Association as its pilot of the year. During Operations Desert Shield and Storm, she engaged in a night-time rescue of an injured U.S. Navy diver from a platform at sea. If women are allowed direct military combat roles, Franke says, ”I don`t see any obstacles. It`s head work. You don`t see the physical difference that you see in combat on the ground.”
