Your special section on Health, Fitness, Food and Nutrition of Jan. 29 failed to provide any information about mental health. Millions of people in our nation are mentally ill and depressed. The health hotlines omitted any telephone outreach service for the mentally ill and their families.
To those who need assistance and information, our helpline, in the National Alliance for the Mentally Ill office in Arlington, Va., is 1-800-950- NAMI. The hours of staffing are 10 a.m.-5 p.m., Monday-Friday. At other times an answering machine will provide information and record messages.
The surprising thing about mental illness is how little people understand it. A lot of minds will change with the correct information.
