Former Irish Republican Army member Joseph Doherty (right) was removed from federal prison in Lewisburg, Pa., Wednesday and put on a plane to Great Britain despite appeals that he receive asylum, a federal law enforcement source said. Doherty escaped from a Northern Ireland prison after being charged in the killing of a British army captain in Belfast in 1981.
