I read with disgust, laughter and a height-ened sense of cynicism Anna Quindlen`s column (”It`s time to get behind the women behind the men”) on her self-righteous endorsement of women for poli-tical leadership. Gosh, what a compelling argument she pre-sented, founded on her biased perceptions and self-proclama-tion. Are there real reasons we should get behind the women?

I don`t think anybody is real pleased with the lack of compe-tence displayed in today`s gov-ernment. But does that automatically justify the alleged ”understanding” that ”the wives are superior” and therefore more capable? Does that mean we now look to women for all the answers?

Certainly, as the government evolves and we strive for our goals, women will play an inte-gral role. Nobody denies that and I`m ”behind” any person who can successfully lead the country-regardless of their sex. But the last thing we need right now is the emotional lamenting of our next leader on their need for a few months out of the office because of a pending maternal event or a sale at Bloomingdale`s.
