Dude! Have you heard? ”Wayne`s World” is on the big screen!

”No way!”

Way! And I hear they have this totally schwinglicious babe Cassandra (Tia Carrere), and they must save her and themselves from the evil hands of the Benjaminmeister (Rob Lowe). See, he`s going to use them for his own unscrupulous aspirations….

”Man, don`t tell me they got serious?”

NOT! In fact, they party harder than ever.

”Cool, party on!”

Yeah, party on, dude!

(I`m sorry, guys; I couldn`t resist.)

But yes, Wayne and Garth, or rather Mike Myers and Dana Carvey, have brought the basement to the big time-from Aurora (a town very near and dear to my heart, but what in the film looked a lot like L.A.) to the world. And it is a beautiful thing. Director Penelope Spheeris takes what could have been a disaster, and turns it into a splendiciously funny movie which remains surprisingly true to the ”SNL” originals.

I`m sure some parents` coalition (although obviously not of the ones in the theater where I was) will write volumes about why people like ”Wayne`s World” and how it shows the world is heading to the toilet. But I really don`t care. In fact, I saw it twice in one day and it was funnier the second time around.

Wayne said he hoped you`d find his movie whimsical yet relevant, and that, along with a very low rating on the hurlability scale, gets ”Wayne`s World” (STAR)(STAR)(STAR) 1/2
