It is incredible that, amidst all the furor and controversy regarding the new influx of illegal aliens from Mexico through the border, neither political candidates or the media have emphasized the fact that the Immigration Reform and Control Act enacted by Congress in 1986 clearly and specifically establishes a set of sanctions against employers that hire undocumented persons.
If this part of the act would be strictly and strongly enforced, with greater controls over those employers in states that border Mexico, there would be no need to think about such appalling and outrageous ideas as erecting a Berlin-style wall, caving ditches or, more ludicrous, deploying an army of soldiers.
When people in Mexico, Central America or any other country in the world learn that in our nation there are but a few or no employers willing to break the law hiring illegal aliens, I am sure that nobody would take a chance to come illegally to the United States to find no job available.
