With all the Japan-bashing going on at this time and with all the foreign-made goods being sold on the American market, why did Jewel Food Stores choose to sell Olympic pins made in Taiwan?
I understand that 16 cents goes to help the cost of our athletes being there, but I can`t understand the need to have a Taiwan-made pin be any part of our Olympic endeavor.
Furthermore, regarding whether Magic Johnson should play in the Olympic basketball tournament, why must we field a team of professionals in an event that up to now was an amateur event? Is the American ego so big that we can`t stand to lose a sports event?
Have we placed the athlete on such a high pedestal that we are ashamed to lose and therefore have to use highly overpaid athletes to represent us? Isn`t it enough that we did our very best?
I will boycott the summer games on the issue of profes-sionals being used and our young promising athletes being left on the sidelines to only watch.
