Wellesley College, a women`s college in Massachusetts, has set a record for fundraising by a private liberal arts college, with total cash gifts of $167,182,000 since 1987. ”Our alumnae have challenged traditional assumptions about the relationship of women to fundraising and philanthropy,” says Nicki Newman Tanner, Wellesley trustee. Information provided by Wellesley states that 81 percent of its approximately 36,000 alumnae made at least one gift during the five-year campaign.
