Your Feb. 7 editorial, ”Race and respect in education,” didn`t cover the frustration a teacher must feel at having to risk his own well-being to break up three fights in one day at school.

I expected to learn the fight participants were expelled and their chance of earning a living was in danger without an educa-tion. I`d hoped to read that the fighters` parents came to school to apologize for their children, whom they are responsible for.

Where was the respect for education from the fighters? Respect for the teachers and the students, who must be upset by fighting at school?

The parents and school board better review their procedures for excluding disruptive, lawless teens for the safety and educa-tion of the students. Everyone`s best chance to have the good life depends on ethics and education to be a productive part of a larger society.
