One look at this Burr Ridge home and you`ll have Georgian on your mind.
The three-year-old house, at 6622 Manor Dr. in the Heatherfields subdivision, has the graceful lines and appealing symmetry typical of Georgians and the asking price of $559,000 puts it at the lower end of the subdivision`s price range.
”This is a newer subdivision, built in the last four years,” said listing agent Liz Lawler Skinner of Heritage Real Estate in Hinsdale. ”This is the least expensive home on the market (in this subdivision). There`s one at $687,000, one at $795,000, and others are in the million-dollar range.”
Why the bargain price on this house? Perhaps it`s because the home is smallish for upscale Burr Ridge (even though it offers five bedrooms or four bedrooms and a main-level den). Another reason may be the proximity of the Tri-State Tollway out the back door-not exactly that it`s close, but it is visible.
On the plus side, Skinner noted that the house has the only four-car garage in Heatherfields, a side-load design with a driveway that also circles in front of the house.
Inside the marble-floored entry is a huge two-story foyer, with a closet on either side of the entry door. The rooms on either side of the entry have symmetrical windows and vertical blinds; the dining room on the left is 15 by 14 feet and the living room on the right is 19 by 15.
The light-toned oak floors in both these rooms continue to the back of the house, where the 15-by-14 kitchen includes a Jenn-Aire cook island with grill, a built-in convection oven and microwave combination, a refrigerator and a built-in dishwasher. The mauve tones in the ceramic backsplash are picked up in the light box over the island.
All decked out
The 9-by-12 eat-in area has a bay window overlooking a multi-tiered deck that features window boxes and an angle-laid wood pattern. A counter that separates the breakfast area from the family room is a clever feature, offering a sink that can serve both rooms as well as cabinets underneath for the 23-by-15 family room. The family room also features an oak and marble fireplace.
The main level also has a half bath and, down a side hallway, a bath with shower, a large utility room with shelving and a closet, and the fifth bedroom or den. The 14-by-10 den/bedroom has a large closet and is situated in a private corner of the house, where it could be used by an in-law, a teenager, or a person who has difficulty negotiating stairs.
Upstairs, at the top of a turned oak staircase, is a hallway with mauve carpeting that winds through the master bedroom and its three smaller counterparts. Two bedrooms-12 by 17 feet and 14 by 13-have an entry into the same huge walk-in closet, a perk for the two young girls who used to live in the now-empty house and loved to share clothes. However, Skinner noted, the addition of a simple straight wall would give each room its own walk-in closet (half the size, but still plenty large).
The 19-by-14 master bedroom has a short hallway with a symmetrical set of walk-in closets-”his and hers.” The master bathroom has a skylight, a wood- surrounded double whirlpool, a double shower, two separated sinks, and a toilet in a separate small room.
A door off the master bedroom leads to a separate 13-by-9 area, with the oak railing where you can overlook the entryway. The space could be used as a sitting room, an exercise area or maybe a play area (it also opens onto one of the children`s rooms).
The fourth upstairs bedroom is 13 by 11 feet and offers a double-door closet.
Other features of this home include a full, unfinished basement, a central vaccuum and two-zoned heating and air conditioning.
Located on the east side of County Line Road, the house is in Cook County. ”There`s the benefit of lower taxes,” Skinner said, ”but this house is in Hinsdale`s school district.”
