Federal and state investigators will look into the cause of the collapse Friday of a 100-foot telecommunications tower in Itasca.

Terrence Barnich, commisioner with the Illinois Commerce Commission, said, ”First thing Monday morning I am going to ask my fellow commissioners to agree to assign appropriate telecommunications staff to assit the FBI and the police with the investigation of the apparent sabotage of the tower.”

The tower, operated by Cellular One and known as a ”cell site” tower, collapsed about 1:15 p.m. on a lot at Rohlwing Road and Irving Park Road in Itasca, according to Donna Morrison, director of marketing for Cellular One.

No injuries were reported, but ”several hundred” cellular phones in the area had to be rerouted to 30 other towers in Schiller Park, Downers Grove, Naperville and Bensenville, Morrison said.
