My concern about the third airport is related to the quality of life in northwest Indiana. Its location at the Lake Calumet site will have a negative impact upon the population in the area. Noise and congestion will become factors that will encourage residents to leave the area.

Moreover, I am alarmed at the willingness of state and local officials to commit $10-20 billion for a project with little consideration of the social, en-vironmental and safety factors.

My biggest criticism of the Lake Calumet site is that it`s only a

”concept” from Mayor Daley and lacks any in-depth study of the issue. It is a site that is being wheeled and dealed politically and will probably cost several times the estimated $10.8 billion currently quoted by Mayor Daley.
