Mike Royko`s Feb. 25 column, ”Would Buchanan punch up his past?”, is full of implications that Mr. Buchanan does nothing but boast about brawls in the old days.
I don`t recall hearing or reading Mr. Buchanan boasting. He honestly stated that he got in a few scuffles and admitted it wasn`t so smart. He was a young man then.
Then there`s Clarence Page`s Feb. 23 column, ”Pat Buchanan in living color.” I viewed this as racist. The column is written about the color of Mr. Buchanan`s skin. Since when is it a shame to be a white, heterosexual, Christian male?
I would guess that Clarence Page is upset with the voters` failure to elect a black president. I see only those like Mr. Page who base everything on skin color anymore.
Mr. Buchanan is not a bigot, or a racist, or a sexist. He is an outstanding member of a proud tradition of true mainstream Americans; he is intelligent and he is a gentleman.
I hear a lot of criticism of President Bush. Make good on your thoughts, America; don`t re-elect him.
