The Tribune`s recent editorial on the National Endowment for the Arts was too gentle. There is a distressing tendency to equate withdrawal of financial support with censorship. As you make clear, nobody is trying to keep these

”artists” from displaying their stuff.

Let them hire halls and charge admission, if they can get anyone to pay for it. I suspect they know they can`t, which is why denial of taxpayer support is painful. They might even have to work. Spare the thought.
