Getting your Trinity Audio player ready...

I would like to thank you for running Jerry Thomas` story of Feb. 23. As Thomas clearly pointed out, caring for an HIV-exposed child is not a sentence for contracting the disease. Instead, it is an opportunity for an infant to experience the nurturing and love that every child deserves.

Furthermore, 70 percent of all HIV-exposed babies falsely test positive during their first 18 months because they are carrying their mother`s antibodies. So most of these AIDS babies are not really infected in the first place.

My plea to your audience is that more families consider caring for our ever-increasing number of children who are innocently exposed to the HIV virus. These children, like all others, need to be held.
