Bill Cartwright, held out of Tuesday night`s game against Denver because of tendinitis in his left knee, called it ”a good chance for Will (Perdue)

and Scott (Williams) to play.”

Cartwright missed rookie sensation Dikembe Mutombo in both meetings with the Nuggets this season. Last game, Cartwright was out with a fractured hand. The wall: Cartwright, an All-Star in his rookie season, said he thinks he knows what Mutombo, whose stats have slipped drastically in March, is going through.

”I remember my rookie year, I hit the wall at the All-Star break,”

Cartwright said. ”I was like, `Eighty-two games? You`ve got to be kidding.`

There are a lot of ups and downs your rookie year.”

Asked what advice he has given Mutombo, Denver coach Paul Westhead said there wasn`t much to give. ”When you`re a rookie, you have to fight that tiredness alone,” he said.

Whoops: Westhead, who coached the Bulls during the 1982-83 season, accidentally headed toward the home dressing room Tuesday night before catching himself.

”Instinct took me to the wrong dressing room,” he said.
