Republican U.S. Senate nominee Richard Williamson will have a difficult time convincing people that the way to help solve perceived corruption in Congress or its loss of touch with constituents` concerns is to elect another upper-class, white male to the U.S. Senate. Carol Moseley Braun`s stunning upset victory was a step in the right direction.

In the upcoming November general election the people of Illinois have the opportunity to make state and national history by electing the first black woman to the U.S. Senate. It will be fitting for the Land of Lincoln to be the state to make this accomplishment.
