As a chiropractor, I am relieved that the American Medical Association will no longer try to contain and destroy my profession. The Wilk vs. AMA decision was a landmark victory for chiropractic. But I am finding that the public has the wrong impression of its meaning.
Patients are congratulating us on our new-founded acceptance by the AMA. This is not the case. The AMA has agreed to stop bashing us with damaging propaganda, but I haven`t received my dozen long-stemmed roses with a card saying ”Welcome.”
Chiropractic has survived since its inception in 1895 in spite of climbing an infinite mountain. Why? Not because of AMA accept-ance, but because of public accept-ance-the only type that matters.
So the peace pipe has been passed and lit. But when a peace pipe is forced down someone`s throat, it is inevitable that someone is going to choke on the smoke.
